Job Responsibilities
· Assists in the physical admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
· Assist to orient new patients to the assigned bed and facilities in the ward.
· Performs the following daily basic patient care procedures / activities:
· Assess, monitor, record and report abnormal vital signs;
· Perform blood glucose monitoring (if trained);
· Administer Oxygen therapy;
· Serve feeds/meals and assist patients who are unable to feed themselves;
· Perform enteral tube feeding;
· Record intake and output;
· Collect sputum, urine and stool specimens;
· Take patient’s weight;
· Assist the patient with personal hygiene, e.g., toilet baths, bed sponging changing of diapers, care of the skin and hair;
· Lift, turn and position bed bound patients 2 hourly;
· Offer and collect bedpan/urinals for non-ambulant patients;
· Closely monitor restless patients and ensure they are safe and comfortable;
· Transport patients on wheelchair or trolley to other wards/areas or taxi stand when assigned;
· Accompany patients to other hospitals for their follow up appointments when assigned;
· Assist and participate in emergency situations e.g., code blue;
· Maintain a conducive, clean and safe environment for the patient to recuperate.
· Attend continuing education / in-services on a regular basis to maintain competency.
· Participates in ward discussions and meetings to improve patient care and work processes.
· Counts the ward items and reports losses or items requiring repairs to the supervisor in charge promptly.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the trained nurse / Nurse Manager.
Requirements
· Completed secondary education or equivalent as approved.
· GCE ‘N’ or ‘O’ level in at least three subjects, including English.
· Completed WSQ Certificate in Health Care Support (Nursing Care) Course.
· One-year experience as a nursing aide preferred.
· Ability to understand and speak English.
